Carol Ann Wilson

1 post
An educator for more than four decades, Carol Ann Wilson’s work with public schools and higher education institutions focused on issues of democracy and social justice, as did her writing. When she turned to creative nonfiction, her first book, Still Point of the Turning World: The Life of Gia-fu Feng, won Foreword Review’s Book of the Year Award. "The Girl from Coke," a personal narrative published in Under the Gum Tree, won the Colorado Authors League Award of Excellence. “Fireworks in Hong Kong,” published in The Write Launch, is a finalist for the same award this year. Carol lives and writes in Boulder, Colorado.

The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story

  • Carol Ann Wilson
  • May 24, 2022
Carol Ann Wilson reviews The 1619 Project, created by Nikole Hannah-Jones. "As an educator myself, working in and with schools and higher education institutions for more than four decades, I felt drawn to the project’s scope and depth. My work for many of those four-plus decades focused on the role of our public schools in a social and political democracy and the importance of educating all students equitably and excellently. For me, a central question has been how we can do that when we don’t know more of the whole story ourselves."

Need a great book for weekend reading? We recommend The Promise by Damon Galgut. A haunting saga about a white South African family, set in the backdrop of a changing country. Spanning three decades and three funerals, the story follows the Swart family children as they navigate lives of failed possibilities and their unmet promise to a family servant. 5 0
